One of the major changes is how long children should ride in <\/span>rear facing<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"> seats. The law now states that children two years old and under will need to be restrained in <\/span>rear facing<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"> car seats. This is until they exceed the height and weight limits detailed by the car seat manufacturer.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"containerPostContent container-post-content\">\n<div class=\"postContent post-content\">\n<p>It is important that you pick the right seat for your child. Car seat compatibility is based on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.safercar.gov\/parents\/CarSeats\/Right-Car-Seat-Age-Size.htm?view=full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">size and age\u00a0<\/a>of your child.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are six different types of car seats:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Infant<\/li>\n<li>Convertible<\/li>\n<li>All in one<\/li>\n<li>Combination<\/li>\n<li>High-backed booster<\/li>\n<li>Backless booster<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>These seats are available in various forms.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rear Facing Car Seats<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Infant car seat: This chair is designed for newborns and small babies.<\/li>\n<li class=\"last-child\">Convertible seat: This chair can transition from rear to forward facing. This particular seat allows children to use the rear facing seat longer. This may be a popular option with the new law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Forward Facing Car Seats<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Convertible seat: This chair switches from rear facing to forward facing as children grow. It has a harness and tether.<\/li>\n<li class=\"last-child\">Combination seat: When forward facing, this seat has a harness and tether. When the child outgrows the seat in this stage, it can transition into a booster seat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Booster Seats<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High-backed booster seat: This seat helps boost the child up so that the car&#8217;s seat belt fits across their body correctly. The high back provides needed back and neck support.<\/li>\n<li>Backless booster seat: The main job of this seat is to boost the child up so that the seat belt is properly aligned. The built-in head rest of the vehicle works with this seat.<\/li>\n<li class=\"last-child\">Combination seat: At this stage, the combination seat works with a harness and elevates the child so that the seat belt fits properly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>all in one seat<\/strong>\u00a0can transition from rear facing, to forward facing and then to a booster.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the update in the child restraint law, South Carolina is now one of five states that require children two and under to be rear facing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In May of this year a new law was passed in South Carolina to update child passenger\u00a0restraint policies.\u00a0The new law is composed of several changes.
